We promote our local seasonal produce in the shop wherever possible so that you know what is local and fresh.
We hope to offer this service on our website very soon.
Christmas
Our fresh Turkeys are available from 10 to 30lb and Geese from 10 to 15lb. Please book early to avoid disappointment. We also supply Fresh Duck, Chicken, Venison, Lamb and Beef. We are happy to stuff your poultry so that they are completely ready to roast.
Why not order a box in advance so that on Christmas Eve all you need to do is collect it from us and enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a homemade mince pie. You can put anything in your box. Ask us for an order list or browse the shop and we will help you make up your own box.
We are supplying locally grown Christmas trees this year and will have a large selection of both cut and pot grown trees.
We have a range of gift hampers so that you can fill them with any of our produce and we will gift wrap them for you, making a very personal, useful and tasty gift.
Lambing time
As sheep farmers we always have our fair share of orphan lambs. We lamb outdoors and so lamb quite late to allow the weather time to warm up. We start lambing at the beginning of April and lambing time lasts about a month. (although there are always hangers on). In addition to our own orphan lambs we also take in orphan lambs from local farms.
The lambs are hand reared for a variety of reasons. The majority are due to a lack of milk from the mother and of these the most common reason is because the ewe hasn't got enough milk to feed more than one lamb. A few of our ewes have triplets. We try if possible to leave triplets on the ewe but sometimes we find it necessary to take one away.
(One of last years ewes with her triplets)
We also try to adopt orphan lambs onto suitable ewes so we are left with as few orphans as possible.
In 2006 we bought up a total of 14 lambs. We also invited the public to feed the lambs in return for a donation to the Childrens hospice "Babe appeal".
Each lamb has it's own individual personality and we try to give them a name to match. Last year we had Babe, Barnie, Muffin, Minty, O, Skippy, Diana, Dominic, Ruby, Bluey, Pinky, Blacky, Fred and Bill.
In 2007 we had 8 lambs including Natty (a black lamb from a neighbours farm)
This year (2008) we have seven lambs including Cerys, Bart and Bob
Of course Tinkywink, Babe and Ruby are still here, and now they are mothers themselves, and they always like to be petted and will eat nuts from your hand. So why not come and see them and all the other friendly animals who would love to see you.
